Montour Falls Gateway
A streetscape improvement project with a focus on gateway enhancements, signage, pedestrian amenities and municipal parking improvements. Gateway improvements were concentrated at the intersection of Main Street and Route 14, a busy travel route to Watkins Glen, to entice travelers to visit Montour Falls historic downtown and impressive waterfall. A landscaped median extends one block and incorporates a welcome sign, street trees and ornamental light poles. Two brick gateway features, reminiscent of local architecture, flank both sides of Main Street and are accented with ornamental metal work and plantings. Pedestrian amenities within the downtown corridor include benches, a bike rack and an information kiosk displaying area attractions. Municipal parking improvements are organized to accommodate tour bus activities and Catherine Valley Trailhead. Additional street tree plantings, with pervious paving, complement the downtown.
